The Israeli situation with vaccines has been really good.
Israel is still leading the race by far, with nearly three out of five of its population having received at least one dose. Around half of Israelis — over 4.4 million — have received a second dose.
Palestinians? Ehh, not so much. After having received “enough doses to vaccinate 31,000 people,” out of a population of five million.
Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Kamal al-Shakhra said authorities would receive 38,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 24,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The AstraZeneca vaccines will be kept in storage until the WHO reviews safety concerns.
So yes, Israel is beginning to see to the needs of the population that’s under blockade and thereby can’t obtain vaccines without going through Israeli checkpoints.
Update: And, of course, it hardly helps matters that Palestinian hospitals are filling up with patients who are stricken with COVID-19.
