The singer Lana Del Ray tried, but was unsuccessful in playing for both Palestinians and Israelis, so she dropped out of the Israeli music festival entirely. She indicated she would like to keep trying to play for both sides. “I’m doing my best to navigate the waters of the constant tumultuous hardships in the war-torn countries all over the world that I travel through monthly.”
But the Palestine Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel was perfectly happy to have her play “when Israel’s occupation and apartheid end.”
Other artists have taken both sides in the dispute, some feeling that performing music should not be a political statement while others have agreed with the BDS movement and have refused to play in Israel.
